Dan Evans has revealed he’ll drink some beers after his brutal US Open exit and insists he doesn’t care about suffering two bagels: ‘I don’t give a ****’!’

Not much was expected from Evans heading into the final Grand Slam of the year, but the 34-year-old produced one of the best wins of his career in the first round.

World No.184 Evans, who played Olympic doubles with Andy Murray this summer, conjured up a stunning five-set victory over 23rd-seed Karen Khachanov.

He followed that up with another impressive win over Argentine Mariano Navone, this time in straight sets, but couldn’t go any further as he lost to Alex de Minaur.

De Minaur, the Australian boyfriend of British No.1 Katie Boulter, went into the match as a massive favourite and the 10th-seed won 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-0 6-0.

Speaking after the match, Evans played down the fact his opponent won the last two sets six games to love as he issued somewhat of a foul-mouthed response.

‘You finish the match,’ Evans said. ‘That’s just my way. And that’s how I was brought up. You stay till the end and shake hands. And he actually said, ‘Thanks for staying out there, respect’. And that’s not what I am doing it for.

‘But people come into and pay and some are happy and some are not. After the second set, it reads: 6-0 6-0.

‘But that’s by the by, for me, I couldn’t, couldn’t give a **** if it says six love, six love. I stayed out there to fight until the last ball.

‘My groin and my hip have been been sore ever since the first match. I will be fine after a few days’ rest.

‘A few beers will help as well. Then I’ll play Davis Cup and hopefully we’ll qualify for the finals [which will be played in Malaga in late November].

‘I want to take a proper rest at some point. It’s important not just for me but for [his girlfriend] Aleah, and for my team.

‘It takes a toll on other people as well when you’re not winning. It’s not just about turning up every day to play tennis. There’s bigger things in life.’
